Amy, Amy, Amy!!!

Despite Amy Winehouse's very public and seemingly unapologetic cracked out ways, she is one of my FAVORITE artists. She has an incredible voice and her pen game is out of this world. Some of her songs make me feel as if she's been watching the movie of my life. Anywho... i've stuck with her through all her mess, even that HORRIBLE Grammy performance, but now, she has definitely gone too far. There is a video (that her infamous husband, Blake) took of her and a friend, in what seems to be a crack house, singing racially offensive songs. Watching the video makes me feel like I watched her die on camera...its ridiculously sad to see the depths to which she has sunk. You can google the video...its all over the place, and instead of spreading the bad stuff, i'll share some of my favorite Amy Winehouse songs.

OBAMA!!!!!

I was half asleep when I got the text that Obama is set to make history as the first African- American to be a presidential candidate for a major political party. Right now, I really can't express the joy that I'm feeling...not because America is so great, but because there is now a great potential for change to take place. I'm not going to preach or even attempt any sort of persuasion...but I will say that you GOTTA vote... politics is BS, we all know that...but I'd rather at least have someone in office who I can kinda- sorta agree with over someone will screw myself and the entire country over with no remorse. So, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take some time to research, choose a candidate and VOTE!!!!

A Post About Nothing...

So anybody who knows me knows that I am lowkey in love with the DMV (DC/Maryland/Virginia) area...especially with the capital's rap ambassador Wale. I've loved him from the first time I heard him on the #1 College Radio Station WHBC 830 AM (please pardon the shameless plug, lol). His flow is dope, is style is fly, and his swag is...irresistible. He has MAJOR buzz in the industry and has already worked with everybody from Bun B to Black Thought to MIA & Lily Allen, and you can't forget to the Mark Ronson endorsement that you have to throw in there. If I could attempt to describe him as a rapper, it would be to take everything you like about Lupe to everything you like about Weezy and add a DC Go-Go beat. Anyways, he just dropped The Mixtape About Nothing that has a nice concept based on Seinfeld, "The Show About Nothing"...and to me, it tops that other album that leaked on the 30th (no disrespect to Weezy the Martian).

You can download the mixtape at his blog: elitaste

Right now, he is having a contest in conjunction with URB magazine where they are giving away one of these customized New Eras per day for a week. (Thanks to HIGHSNOBIETY for the pic)

Mr. Carter

If you've been anywhere on earth (or maybe even Mars), you know that Lil Wayne is considered by many to be the hottest rapper in the game right now. And if you know that, you probably know that his highly anticipated album Tha Carter III is due to come out on June 10. If you're really on top of your music stuff, then you know that it leaked this past weekend, due in part to some reckless comments that Weezy made about mixtape DJs, "F*** mixtape DJs...they can suck my d***", who have had a great part in making him the phenomenon that he is.

I've heard the album, and I don't really want to do a full review because I don't want to influence anyone else's opinions....but I will say that my favorite tracks so far (that aren't singles or previously heard) are Mr. Carter feat. Jay-Z (of course) and Dr. Carter.

Thats really not what this post is about though. We all know that Weezy F. Baby has something indescribable that drives many females (myself NOT included) crazy. VH1 had the brilliant idea to have fans ask Mr. Carter himself questions regarding sex and relationships. Some of his answers are expectedly outlandish, but most of his advice is actually pretty sound (drug-induced as it is), even though the delivery may not be so. Anyways, take a peek at a few of my favorites.

Say Hello

Honey you so sweet
Sugar got a long way to catch you
You so sweet
All I gotta do is add a lil lemmon
You my favorite drank
Ya make me thank
Lyrics from the song titled "Honey" by Erykah Badu inspired this blog. It will just be about things I like, things that inspire me, whatever I find dope. It will probably start off a little random, because, well, thats what I am. Eventually though, you'll be able to find a method to my madness.

I'll start off with a little about me. I was born and raised in the Midwest- Kansas City, MO to be exact. I've been living in Washington, DC for the past three years as a student at Howard University, and I've definitely learned and grown alot for the better. I'm definitely a big- city girl with small city sensibilities, if that makes any sense. I love music, football, shoes, & pop culture...I'm no lame and you gonna know my name...
